PACKRAFT SIZE & FIT

Choosing the correct packraft size improves comfort, control and paddling efficiency. The Alpacka Raft range includes both sized and unsized models. Unsized models are designed to fit most adults unless stated otherwise on the product page.
For a sized packraft, use the chart below as your starting point. Your leg length, body proportions, paddling style and preferred fit should also influence your final choice.
PACKRAFT SIZE CHART
Small: Up to approximately 170 cm
Medium: Approximately 168–180 cm
Large: Approximately 175–188 cm
X-Large: Approximately 185–198 cm
The size ranges overlap intentionally. Two paddlers of the same height may prefer different sizes depending on their leg length, hip width, equipment and preferred seating position. Always check the size information on the individual product page, as recommendations can vary between models.
HOW SHOULD A PACKRAFT FIT?
In a correctly fitted packraft, your knees should be comfortably bent and your feet should be supported by the foot brace or the front of the seating area.
For packrafts with thigh straps, a moderate knee bend generally provides a good balance of control, comfort and downriver performance. A tighter fit creates a more direct connection to the boat, while a more relaxed fit provides additional legroom and may feel more comfortable on longer trips.
Fit is personal. Experienced whitewater paddlers may prefer a tighter, more responsive position, while touring and recreational paddlers often choose a slightly more relaxed fit.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR SEATED LEG LENGTH
Your seated leg length can help you choose between two sizes.
-
Place the end of a measuring tape against a wall and extend it along the floor for at least 120 cm.
-
Sit on the floor with your hips and back against the wall.
-
Extend your legs naturally without pointing your toes. Wear the footwear you normally use while paddling.
-
Measure the distance from the wall to the bottom of your heels.
This measurement provides a more accurate indication of the space you need inside the packraft than height alone.
WHEN TO CHOOSE THE LARGER SIZE
Consider choosing the larger size if:
• You have relatively long legs or wider hips for your height.
• You prefer more legroom and a relaxed seating position.
• Comfort on long touring days is your main priority.
• You expect to wear bulky footwear or additional cold-weather clothing.
• You are between sizes and do not need an especially tight whitewater fit.
WHEN TO CHOOSE THE SMALLER SIZE
Consider choosing the smaller size if:
• You have relatively short legs or narrower hips for your height.
• You prefer a tighter and more responsive fit.
• You want stronger engagement with the thigh straps.
• Technical whitewater performance is your main priority.
• You are comfortable paddling with a deeper knee bend.
IMPORTANT MODEL-SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Packraft dimensions and fitting recommendations vary between models. The sizing information shown on the individual product page always takes priority over this general guide.
Seats, backbands, foot braces, thigh straps, paddling footwear and drysuits can all affect the available interior space. If possible, consider the complete equipment setup you intend to use when choosing your size.
